Personal Development or Virtue in Action

I was rereading The Te of Piglet by Benjamin Hoffman. He explains the Chinese character Te.

“In Classical Chinese, it (Te) is written two ways. The first joins the character for upright to the character for heart. Its meaning is virtue. The second way adds the character for left foot, which in Chinese signifies stepping out. Its meaning is virtue in action.”

in action. I like that. For me, that’s what personal development is. Virtue in action. We have to to take action in order to grow and develop. It’s been said that the more we are able to step out of our comfort zone , the more we are able to develop. Remember the first time you rode a bike, or jumped into the deep end of the pool. Pretty scary huh? But you did it and it wasn’t to long before you were biking or swimming or whatever it was that was scary but fun to learn. Remember there is virtue in action, and maybe a little bit of fun and personal development too.

The relationship between Ho’oponopono, EFT and the Law of Attraction

While reading several different explanations of Ho’oponopono, I couln’t help but notice the similarity between Ho’oponopono and EFT. First of all read these descriptions of and ..

From Beyond Traditional Means: Ho’oponopono

How does Ho’oponopono work? Morrnah explains, “We are the sum total of our experiences, which is to say that we are burdened by our pasts. When we experience stress or fear in our lives, if we would look carefully, we would find that the cause is actually a memory. It is the emotions which are tied to these memories which affect us now. The subconscious associates an action or person in the present with something that happened in the past. When this occurs, emotions are activated and stress is produced.” She continues, “The main purpose of this process is to discover the Divinity within oneself. The is a profound gift which allows one to develop a working relationship with the Divinity within and learn to ask that in each moment, our errors in thought, word, deed or action be cleansed. The process is essentially about freedom, complete freedom from the past.”.

From What is EFT?

What is EFT(Emotional Freedom Technique).. is an emotional version of acupuncture except needles aren’t necessary. Instead, you stimulate well established energy meridian points on your body by on them with your fingertips…”Our unresolved negative emotions are major contributors to most physical pains and diseases.”…….. once you have seen how well EFT clears out emotional debris…”

As you can see, both techniques are focused on creating freedom from past emotional baggage. With Ho’oponopono you repeat the following phrases I love you, I’m sorry, Please forgive me, Thank You. With EFT, you start with a neutralizing affirmation; Even though I have this _____________, I deeply and completely accept myself.

What about the law of Attraction?

The Law of Attraction has three steps.

1) Identify your desire - What you want.

2) Give your , and on what you want and

3) Allow the Law of Attraction to work - no limiting beliefs or negative vibrations. Believe and Allow.

Its in the third step, allowing, that Ho’oponopono and EFT, come into play.

When we are having difficulty with the Law of Attraction, when we are having difficulty believing and allowing what we are manifesting, when its not feeling right, then its time to look at clearing some of the emotions and beliefs that are holding us back.

Will Ho’oponopono and EFT really work? Try it and see. If it works, that great. What do you have to lose, except a few limiting beliefs?

Personal Development and Time Travel

“TO INFINITY AND BEYOND!!!” (Buzz Lightyear)

“The human body moves forward in time at the rate of one second per second whether we like it or not. But the the human mind can move through time in any direction and at any speed it chooses.”
Time Travel in the Brain by Daniel Gilbert and Randy Buckner

This is a great article about the dark network and how are brains are designed to travel in time. We review our past and predict our future. This is our default mode. We spend more of our time away from the present than in it. This might be the reason why we have such a hard time living in the moment because we are either thinking about what we have done, or thinking about what we are going to do. It may also give us a clue about the Law of Attraction and how we seem to attract what we don’t want. That’s because we give our energy, attention and focus on the past and more importantly things that have happened already, rather than the present.

When you leave a comment on a Wordpress blog, a “no follow” tag is automatically inserted, so the link is not spidered by the search engines. The code that causes this to happen was originally designed to curb “comment spam”, but it hasn’t been effective. When you leave a comment on someone’s blog, and they have not disabled the “no follow” code, your link isn’t picked up as a highly coveted and much sought after “backlink”. No LinkLove for you.

So, I’ve installed the “DoFollow” plugin, and the CommentLuv Plugin (this will visit the feed of the comment author and attempt to display the last post they made and display it under their comment). This way, when someone comes to my blog, they will immediately know that comments are really appreciated and that I share the LinkLove.

Now, if your like me, I know what you are going to say. “I’m not sending a negative vibration. I have clarity. I give my desire energy, attention and focus. And I allow it.” Well, take a look at your results. If your OK with the results, that’s fine. But if you want to take change the

Personal Development and Locus of Control

Martin Seligman, in the 60’s, did rather cruel experiments on dogs. He exposed them to a tone and a brief electrical shock from which they were unable to escape - restraining the dog in a harness during the learning phase. The idea, then, was that after the dog learned this, the dog would feel fear on the presentation of a tone, and would then run away or do some other behavior. (Step 1 dog associates sound of tone with shock.) In Step 2, they put the conditioned dog into a shuttlebox, which consists of a low fence dividing a box into two compartments. The dog could easily see over the fence, and easily jump over it . Then they presented the tone. Surprisingly, nothing happened. (They were expecting the dog to jump over the fence, to avoid the shock.) Then, they decided to shock the conditioned dog, and again nothing happened! The dog just lay there!(the dog had learned helplessness). When they put a nonconditioned dog into the shuttlebox, who never experienced inescapable shock, the dog, as soon as he heard the tone and felt the shock, jumped over the barrier (quickly learning that the tone preceded the shock and jumped the barrier to avoid the shock).

Learned helplessness is when a human being or an animal has learned to believe that it is helpless in a particular situation. In terms of locus of control, someone with learned helplessness has an external locus of control. That is, they believe control is out of their hands. (People with an internal locus of control believe that they control their own destiny. They also believe that their own experiences are controlled by their own skill or efforts.)

I would contend that one of the major steps personal development allows us to take, is to move from an external locus of control to an internal one. One of the more popular concepts in personal development nowadays is the Law of Attraction. The key assumption with the Law of Attraction is that one can control or influence one’s destiny. This requires an internal locus of control.

Personal Development Quote of the Day

“You are not stuck in time like a fly in a closed bottle, whose wings are therefore useless. You cannot trust your physical senses to give you a true picture of reality… You are sometimes wiser, more creative, and far more knowledgeable when you are dreaming than when you are awake.” from Seth Speaks by Jane Roberts

Personal Development Momentum

I was reading a post by Gary Ryan Blair called What Counts Most in his blog Personal Strategic Plan. Gary writes “Every choice must have a purpose. Every choice counts. There are no insignificant choices, no neutral actions. Even the smallest gesture has a consequence, leading you toward or away from your goals .”

Sometimes its easy to forget that each small discipline , each small choice, accumulates. Its easy to say “just one won’t hurt” or “I can do it tomorrow”. And each choice you make, carries a momentum with it. Ever notice its easier to not go to the gym today, if you didn’t go yesterday? And each choice, carries a contagion factor, affecting other disciplines. If you miss the gymn on Tuesday, its easier to grab fast food Tues night.

Jim Rohn writes ” All disciplines affect each other. Mistakenly the man says ‘This is the only area where I let down. Not true. Every let down affects the rest. Not to think so is naive.”

But you can also use this contagion factor to build personal development momentum. When you go to the gymn on Tuesday, its easier to choose a healthy dinner Tuesday night. And each choice can accumulate for the better. Go to the gymn on Tuesday and you have gone once, but go Tues Frid & Mon and you are on a roll.

momentum is small choices leading to great personal development habits.
